Joined UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) in Vienna, Austria in February 1987 as Industrial Development Officer for technical assistance projects in the textile sector. He was responsible for activities in the Textile Unit covering primary textile (spinning, knitting, weaving, wet processing) and garment industries.
During his working career at UNIDO, he implemented and backstopped over 100 projects in developing countries all over the globe.
One of a series of successful projects needs special attention. In 1987 he started the preparations for the Support to SENAI/CETIQT Applied Research Unit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He succeeded in turning a relatively modest, UNDP-funded technical assistance project into a series of self-financed Trust Fund projects running from 1992 to 2003 into which the Brazilian counterparts paid over US$5 million. His easygoing but professionally impeccable behaviour was much appreciated by the counterparts, and his personal drive was one of the major factors behind what was considered both by CETIQT and by UNIDO a success story. He was justifiably proud of this achievement, and beyond the professional level he appreciated working with the Brazilian counterparts.
During his countless travels around the globe, he
Rendered High level advice to governments and ministries on textile and garment related issues;
Prepared textile and garment sector studies for countries and regions;
Identified technical assistance needs in the textile and garment sectors of developing countries;
Prepared project concepts and project documents for the needs of the respective country visited;
Monitored and evaluated project activities;
Reviewed new technological and economical developments in the textile and garment industries and assessed their applicability for developing countries;
Evaluated substantively investment-oriented project proposals submitted by sponsors in developing countries seeking financial partners;
Mr. Moll retired from UNIDO in May 2008 in the position as Deputy to the Director of Agro-Industries and Sectoral Support Branch and as Chief of the Textiles and Leather Unit.
