Cotton yarn prices continued partly rising in the last two weeks in China.
In Qianqing (Zhejiang), the upward move more focused on higher count yarns above 32s, while there was no radical change up to 32s.
In Changyi (Shandong), cotton yarn prices surged across the board by contrast.
Depending on counts, prices rose between 850 and 4,200 yuan per metric ton (12 to 61 cents per kilo).
Polyester Yarns Also Rising
This makes a jump of 4.5% to 15% in only two weeks, reflecting the rather foolish mood being currently experienced on the China's cotton yarn market.
Everyone is now expecting a dramatic correction in prices. The question is not if but when this fall will materialize.
More surprisingly, spun polyester yarn prices also surged on certain markets in China.
For instance, in Changyi, PSF yarn prices were up more than 2,000 yuan per MT (above 30 cents per kilo) in the lower counts.
Polyester-cotton yarn prices are also on the rise here and there.
The yarn market looks mostly driven by demand from downward processors.
Restocking after May's Depression
The continuous increase in cotton prices may partly explain the jump in yarn prices, nevertheless.
On the polyester yarn market, inventories apparently fell to very low levels during the last month, when the textile market was depressed by the fall in the euro and its potential consequences on China's clothing exports to the EU.
Whatever the decline in viscose fiber prices, viscose yarn prices remained mostly unchanged, even rising on certain markets.
