EU's imports of knit clothing continued stagnating in the third quarter last year, in volume terms, while woven clothing imports rebounded in the meantime.
In chapter 62 (woven clothing), imports rose 18.6% in volume terms, eventually rising 9.9% over the first three quarters last year, from the same period a year earlier.
Shipments from China even rebounded by more than 27%, by contrast with first half stagnation, after Chinese prices were slashed.
Average unit price of Chinese shipments was down 16.2% in chapter 62 (woven clothing), while not really moving in chapter 61 (knit clothing).
This may be explained by a rush over lower-quality and cheaper goods, rather than by a real reduction in Chinese prices.
Prices of competitors in Asia continued surging at the same time, with imports of woven clothing from Bangladesh and Vietnam further surging, however.
Turkey and India were confronted with a decline in shipments in both chapters 61 and 62.
Morocco is back on the knit apparel market of Europe, in addition.
