HIGH INTERNATIONAL PRICES BOOSTING PRODUCTION OUTLOOK IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE

Cotlook’s global production and consumption forecasts have risen during the past  month. The net reduction in world stocks predicted for this season (on the back of a  massive drawdown in 2009/2010)  is slightly below 700,000 tonnes, only modestly  altered from last month.

High prices have continued to boost production prospects in the Southern Hemisphere  (planting in those countries should take place over the next couple of months). As  well as significant recoveries in output already projected in Brazil and Argentina, a  near record outturn is now foreseeable in Australia.

Price rationing of demand is expected this season, but, for the moment, renewed  investment in spinning capacity appears to be supporting higher consumption forecasts  in a number of countries.
