NaRaYa speeds up overseas expansion

Narai Intertrade Co, the producer of NaRaYa fabric products, will accelerate its overseas expansion as domestic sales have fallen after political unrest caused tourist arrivals to decline, says president Wasna Lathou

The company this year expects to maintain its revenue at about 700 million baht, the same level as last year, as its sales were affected by political turmoil from March to May.

"Our main customers are tourists," she said. "Every time the country has a political problem, it will hurt our business."

Narai plans to speed up its business expansion overseas to offset the impact from local political risks.

It expects to open its first shop in Hong Kong within the next two months, brining its initial schedule forward by five months.

NaRaYa is also using motorsports to promote its brand. The firm has sponsored Meritus Thai racer Pasin Lathouras, Mrs Wasna's son, to compete in the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific in a bid to expose the company's brand on a global level.

Narai Intertrade is investing 100 million baht in eight new outlets in Thailand and overseas. Of the total, four will be opened locally at Tokyu department store at MBK, Paradise Park, Siam Discovery Center and King Power on Soi Rang Nam. Another four will be opened overseas, in Hong Kong, Dubai, Slovakia and Indonesia.

"We still maintain the same strategy to launch outlets in prime shopping centres," said Mrs Wasana.

The company will also improve its productivity by investing 80 million baht to expand output at its Khon Kaen factory by year-end to serve increasing demand.

NaRaYa products are available in more than 40 countries in Asia, Europe and North America through sales agents and importers. It now has 28 outlets in total.
